About AAP

The Academic Assistance Program (AAP) provides an Extended Period Math Class, Basic or Individualized Academic Accommodations, and a Math and/or English Learning Lab for high school students.  The program is provided for students with documented learning differences and is designed to assist them in reaching their highest potential within the rigorous academic environment at Monte Vista Christian School.

The Academic Assistance Program is not a special education program.  All students at Monte Vista Christian School must have an average to above average academic profile, as measured by indicators such as standardized test scores.  The extra support and encouragement of AAP is designed to give students the tools to achieve and maintain the highest level of academic excellence possible here at MVCS and to use these tools in future educational endeavors.

Requirements for Program Admission

Some students will be required to enroll in AAP due to the expectations clarified during the admissions process.  Students demonstrating the need for additional support based on academic performance, teacher recommendation, or professional educational assessment may be recommended for any or all components of AAP.

Extended Period Math Class (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II)

Based on teacher or College & Career Advisor recommendation, low assessment of math skills, or previous math performance, students may be registered in an extended period math class. The math class will involve registration in 2 class periods of the same course and will earn credit for a one-year class.  There is no additional fee assessed for registration in an extended math class.

Accommodations

Monte Vista Christian School can provide some educational accommodations to students needing extra assistance in the classroom environment.  In order to receive accommodations, proper documentation from a professional evaluator must have been completed within 3 years of enrollment in AAP.

Accommodations involving the use of supportive technology or preferential seating may be provided with enrollment in the Basic Accommodations Program at no additional cost.

Those accommodations involving differentiated, individual or small group instruction require enrollment in the Individualized Accommodations Program and a fee will be assessed.

Determination of which accommodations will provide for the most appropriate environment for academic success at Monte Vista Christian School will be made in cooperation with the student's College and Career Advisor and/or the Dean of Education.

Academic Center for Enrichment English or Math:

AAP students can receive extra instructional support during their Math and/or English Academic Center for Enrichment (ACE) class period.  Through one-on-one and small group learning sessions, they will work with the ACE instructor to improve their skills and understanding of content from their classes.  Students are required to use the necessary organizational skills needed to be successful, including the use of a daily planner, the Focus system, and iPads.  The ACE instructor will work with parents and teachers in implementing the appropriate educational accommodations.
