Theatre Arts

In December 2006, the Advanced Drama classes put on a performance of the hilarious 18th century British farce Tom Jones at the Aptos Academy, and in March 2007 presented an Outdoor Shakespeare Festival on the picturesque MVCS campus.

In May 2007, the performing arts department produced Guys and Dolls as the All School Musical at the Santa Cruz Civic Auditorium, giving the company of 80 actors and musicians the rare opportunity to take a high school  production to a professional Union venue.

In May 2008, Oklahoma! was performed on an outdoor stage at the Monte Vista Equestrian Center, complete with Mista the horse.

Students interested in intermediate or advanced drama are required to audition for a spot in the class.  Any MVCS student may audition for a part in the fall play or spring musical.  Rehearsals will be held after school in the newly renovated theatre lab (D-1). This black box performance space has flexible seating and full lighting and sound capabilities. Please check the arts calendar for auditions and performance dates.

Seventeen of our students were inducted into the Thespian Society in December 2007--here is the press release.
