Equestrian FAQ

Does my student need any prior riding experience?

No, the PE class introduces safe riding to students who have never even touched a horse.

My student rides at another stable. Why should he or she ride during PE?

It offers experienced riders the opportunity to advance their skills by riding many different levels and types of horses, as well as learning both Western and Hunt Seat styles of riding. They will also learn valuable information about horse health care and maintenance during Horse Science.

What grades are taught?

Every effort is made to offer Horsemanship to all grades and most periods during the school day. The schedule may change from year to year depending on interest and time schedules.

What should my student wear?

Every time students ride they are required to wear:

  • riding helmets
  • long, snug fitting jeans or breeches
  • riding boots
  • English riders may wish to wear ½ chaps, full chaps, or tall boots to protect their calves from chafing
  • Students should always have a change of clothes and a jacket
  • Supportive sports bras are highly recommended for girls
  • Lockers are provided at the barn
  • Helmets may be borrowed, but are shared between classes
  • Boots may be rented for the semester for $40
